Llama Trekking
Meet the Llamas of Hot Springs at a local trailhead for a guided llama trekking tour. We will learn about all about llamas, connect with the unique biodiversity of the area, and share some of the interesting local history, all while being accompanied by the calming presence of a fleecy friend.
Llama trips/farm visits are only offered on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday!
Read the descriptions below and then use the form to inquire about a hike or farm visit!
Silvermine Trail
This gentle out-and-back trail begins on the edge of town and follows Silvermine Creek deep into a rich cove forest. In Spring there is an array of wildflowers, Summer offers the dense canopy and cool creek crossings as a respite from the heat, Fall dazzles with the changing foliage, and Winter brings the the still quiet of the forest. Learn about llamas, the Appalachian Trail, Hot Springs history, and Southern Appalachia’s biodiversity.
*Your feet may get wet on this one - I recommend sandals or a change of shoes/socks for after the trip.*
Due to the parking, this trip can only support a maximum of three llamas.
Cost: $60 per adult, $30 per child (under 16), plus tax.
Duration: 1.5 hours, 1.5 mile out-and-back trail (easy).
Farm Visit
Come and visit the llamas at the farm! You’ll have the opportunity to feed and brush the llamas, watch a catch-and-halter demonstration, walk the llamas around the pasture (or down to the French Broad River), and learn about llama training and care. Great for younger kids and those with mobility concerns!
Cost/Duration: $25 per person for a one (1) hour visit. Children under 5 are free. Group rates for parties over 5 are available for the farm visit only.
Visits to the farm are by appointment only! Our farm is not open to the general public.
Private, Overnight, and Multi-Day Trips
Any of our standard treks or visits can be converted to a private trip! Perhaps you have an anniversary, birthday, or just want to have the trip to yourself, our llamas are here to help you out! Please include “Private Trip” in the subject line of your inquiry. Additional charge of $10/person.
For overnight and multi-day expeditions, please contact us for an individualized quote. Wilderness guiding is our passion, and the overnight trips showcase the unique potential of llama-packing for exploring the beauty of the backcountry. We have facilitated company or camp retreats, rites-of-passage experiences, hunting and fishing trips, and wilderness survival expeditions just to name a few! The Hot Springs valley is surrounded by miles of wilderness in every direction—our standard trips listed above only scratch the surface! Let’s work together to custom design an experience that supports your interests and goals!

However, our trekking tours operate RAIN or SHINE! As the saying goes, “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.” Dress appropriately!

While we intend to have a llama for each adult in your party, with larger groups, you may be asked to share a llama. Typically we bring along one llama per adult guest each trip unless otherwise discussed.
Each adult must sign a waiver (see below) before participating. You may print, sign, and bring it with you when you arrive, or e-sign and email to david@hotspringsllamas.org. Physical copies are also available on-site.
